Closed in 1965, the Newtown School and Community Association is dedicated to sharing the unique story of the community's unwavering ambitions. Notably, of all the colored schools established in the region during the Jim Crow era, the Newtown (East Elkton) School building remains today as a poignant reminder of the challenges that African Americans faced during this period in United States history.
